THE INSPECTION PROCESS

Once you make an offer on a home, your Purchase Contract will likely contain terms allowing you various inspections of the property. The objective of these inspections is to educate you as to the physical condition of the property you are acquiring. Even though these inspections do not provide guarantees of the condition of the property, they do provide useful information to you as a Buyer. It is very important keep in mind that your Purchase Contract may provide for withdrawal from the agreement if these reports are unsatisfactory. Inspections should not be deemed an open door to renegotiate the purchase price, or a way to get out of a contract.

STRUCTURAL PEST CONTROL INSPECTION

Often referred to as a “Termite Report”, the Structural Pest Control Inspection is carried out by a qualified inspector. In addition to actual termite damage, the Pest Report will indicate any type of wood destroying microorganisms that may be present, including Fungi (sometimes called “dry rot”), which usually is caused by excessive moisture.

OUR TREATMENT APPROACH

December / January: Rodents are always active and spiders can be easily found. In this service dormant oil is used to reduce the number of honeydew producing soft bodied insects during their dormant overwintering stage. This service keeps your plants protected and healthier in the spring and prevents ants and wasps in the spring and summer months.

February / March: During February and March we inspect and treat the outside perimeter of your home. We do this simply because many pests – like rodents, spiders, birds, millipedes, and earwigs – overwinter in the soil along the foundation and are beginning to emerge. Additionally remove spider webs and spider sacs that are visible on the exterior surfaces. This treatment reduces spider populations and prevents pests from emerging in warmer temperatures.

April / May: Customers can expect an inspection and treatment around the foundation walls of the home. Since temperatures are warming up- pests like ants, rodents, spiders, wasps, ladybugs, box elder bugs, flies, and stink bugs are becoming more visible. As activity begins to multiple, our attention centers on pests further from your structure to avoid them before they enter your home. These emerging insects can be extremely bothersome, and prove the value in our fall preventive applications.

June / July: During these summer months our pest control professionals inspect walkways, landscape areas, fences, electrical lines entering the structure etc. to find new infestations that are moving closer to the structure as they enter your property. Your technician will be inspecting for signs of rodents, ants, spiders, ground beetle, rove beetles, and other occasional invaders.

August / September: As summer starts to change into fall, our pest control professionals start to protect your home by looking for ants, spiders, millipedes, rodents, many other occasional invaders, and the overwintering insect activity that begins in September. During this time, pests become more attractive to water and food is in short supply as the season comes to an end.

October / November: During this time, we inspect and treating the outside area of your home for ants, millipedes, spiders, rodents, overwintering insects. This is the time when the pests are trying to get inside your home.

If you have pest issues that continue in between/after your services just let us know, we will return to address your concerns at no additional cost to you.

DIY pest control dangers

The Dangers Of Do-It-Yourself Pest Control Products

Customer beware in dealing with the pitfalls and dangers of Do-It-Yourself Pest Control products.  Termites, roaches and bed bugs are everywhere creating havoc on homes and businesses. Restaurant owners, homeowners, and building managers are looking for solutions. They’re searching the internet for that magic bullet. Of course, the internet is full of answers but doesn’t distinguish between good and bad choices. A pest pandemic is a perfect opportunity for scam artists to take advantage of people who are desperate for help. So keep these tips in mind for when you can’t sleep tight.

  • Ordering pesticides off the internet is not a good idea. DO NOT DO IT! You have no way of knowing what you are really buying.
  • Pesticides banned in the US are often still available in other countries.
  • Sellers may intentionally misrepresent their products, when in fact; they are worthless in controlling the bugs your having a problem with.
  • Some products should not be used indoors or around people or pets.
  • Most insecticides are not effective at killing bed bugs, or they kill bed bugs very slowly.

If you do choose to try an over-the-counter pesticide for termites, cockroaches or bed bugs, or any other insect, just remember…the label is the law and the label matters. The label is there to ensure your health and safety. If the product is not labeled for your desired bug or not labeled for the treatment area, do not use it. Doing so puts people and pets at risk.
Misapplications or over-application can be a problem. Follow the label exactly. More is not always better.

Other concerns to be aware of

Health Risks

Regardless of whether it’s a pest treatment applied is by a professional or a spray can that you buy over the counter at a store, effective pest control often utilizes chemicals. That means that there are potential health risks.
Pest control methods used to stop invasions of insects are designed to kill the pests and prevent them from returning. This often involves using an application that contains chemicals, and with that, there is potential to harm pets and people if not used properly.

For example, if there is a wasp nest on your property, the temptation may be to go to the store and buy a spray can. Because the can makes it seem so easy, the temptation might be to then go home, open the can, aim and spray without reading the warnings. The spray may be effective, but there are a number of potential health risks to keep in mind while using:
Are there kids or pets nearby?

  • Is the cloud of chemicals headed toward your neighbor’s house?
  • Are you close enough for the chemicals to be useful?
  • If agitated, some stinging insects may swarm and sting anything that attacks their nest. Attempting to remove a stinging insect

nest could result in being stung. Other people in close proximity to the nest might also be stung.
Pesticides need to be treated seriously and used properly. Reading all of the instructions is key and they must be followed to the letter, or risks can greatly increase.

There are even stories of people trying to remove spiders and other pests using fire and ending up burning their homes down. A recent viral video of a man trying to remove a spider near his gas tank, at a gas station, by using a lighter that nearly sets the entire station on fire. So, whether it’s chemicals or other methods, seriously consider leaving the pest removal to the pros.

Environmental Risks

Did you know that there are strict rules in most municipalities against using chemicals on honey bees?

Honey bees are a key part of the environment and using chemical treatments are heavily regulated in most places. Professional pest control technicians are trained and certified in removing honey bee hives without damaging them or their environment.
Improper use of pesticides may lead to chemicals leaking into water supplies, vegetable gardens and possibly the air inside your home. Many DIY pest control chemicals have the potential to contaminate the ground and air around your home if not used properly.

There are lots of DIY pest treatment methods out there, and dangers are present with many that you should be aware of.

Monetary Risks

In addition to using over-the-counter chemical treatments, there is no shortage of supposed methods of pest prevention and removal that claim to be entirely environmentally friendly.
While some of these treatments have been discussed before, and may even be effective for a time, oftentimes they are not as effective as treatments provided by professionally trained and experienced pest control experts.

What does this mean for you?
If you attempt to take care of a pest infestation yourself through DIY methods and the infestation returns, you could end up spending more money on additional treatments. And if you’re a business, this could also cost more in lost inventory, crops, work time, etc.

The other potential risk of do-it-yourself treatment is that the pest invasion could get worse, as the method used may not be effective enough. If this is an attempt to get rid of termites, for example, this could end up causing additional damage if not completely eradicated and turn into costly damage to your property.

Professional Pest Control

Professional pest control exterminators know how to find the pests that are invading, where they are coming from, how they got in and how to stop them. Plus, they are trained to find the reasons why the pests are there and offer methods of preventing further infestations.

We offer a complete solution that will protect your property from numerous pests while also keeping the environment in mind.

There are safe and effective ways to eliminate pests. We encourage you to contact a pest management professional in your area who will outline all the options available to you.

When choosing a pest management professional you should ask the following:

  • Are they licensed and insured?
  • Are they members of an accredited association such as the National Pest Management Association?
  • Do they do background checks on their employees?
  • Do they have any guarantees?

When To Call a Pest Control Professional

The vast majority of people, like you, end up with bugs of some sort in your home. This is not good for your home or yard. You realize that it’s not something that you want to live with. You may have taken a stab at buying a variety of products from your local hardware store like pesticides, traps and different bug sprays, but to no avail. The termite invasion is still destroying your home and the critters are still crushing your plants. Is there something else you can do to dispose of these undesirable guests? What is a homeowner to do to get rid of these pests?

What Have You Tried?

To start, let’s look at the various things that you’ve attempted around your home. This will help you figure out if you’ve tried everything that you can or if you could try a few more things before you decide to just throw in the towel. After all, you don’t want to contract a professional (which could be costly) if you don’t have to.

Spray Around your Home

The first thing you can do is spray infected regions around your home. You can treat the area about a foot away from your home to make a solid obstruction barrier. Ensure you get a bug spray that is intended for the sort of bugs that you find in your home and ensure that you use it at the right time of day and in the correct amounts as indicated by the guidelines on the can.

Walk around your house on the inside and the outside to look for cracks or holes that could be letting bugs through. If you have these it’s going to be extremely difficult to keep those termites and other insect pests out with just a spray or powder or any other kind of insecticide.

Fill in those holes and cracks right away with a strong product like an epoxy that will create a strong and tight seal. You’ll want to make sure it’s given enough time to properly seal and then you’re going to want to make sure you spray around the area again to make sure nothing can get inside.

With bigger pervasions, you may not know where the majority of the creepy crawlies are and that can mean you simply don’t be able to deal with them or dispose of them before they’ve spread to another territory or increment in size once more. An expert can really come in and utilize a kind of bug bomb that will experience the whole house and dispose of everything without exception that may live within your dividers. This disposes of the bugs all simultaneously and makes it simpler for you to concentrate on counteractive action later on.
